Gymnema Sylvestris in Ayurveda
One of the fascinating theories in Ayurveda is the one called "signatures". This ancient theory suggests that nature gives clues to the therapeutic value of plants. For example, when one chews the leaves of Gymnema Sylvestre, also known as Gymnema Sylvestris, the tongue is unable to feel the sweet taste for about an hour. This effect is the origin of the Hindi name of this Ayurvedic plant, gurmar, which means "destroyer of sweetness". Ayurvedic doctors concluded that if this plant neutralized the effect of sugar on the tongue, it could have an identical effect on the body.

Gymnema Sylvestre is a climbing plant native to the tropical forests of India and commonly found in southern and central India. It is the gymnemic acid, the acid present in the leaves of Gymnema that inhibits the sweet taste at the level of the papillae, without affecting the other tastes. This same active ingredient partially blocks the absorption of sugar in the intestine, preventing insulin peaks that are harmful to the body and that block weight loss. Associated with a varied and balanced diet, rich in slow sugars, fiber and vegetables, Gymnema Sylvestris will act on the regulation of blood sugar and weight. To note the effects of the plant on blood sugar levels, it is advisable to carry out analyses before and after treatment.
Tip: in case of an irrepressible craving for sugar, pour the contents of 2 capsules directly onto the tongue. The tongue will then be unable to feel the taste of sugar for 1 to 2 hours. Try it yourself, you will be surprised by this tip from Ayurvedic medicine!
