Shatavari, for a healthy reproductive system.
Shatavari is considered in Ayurveda as the main tonic and regenerator of the female genital system, just as Ashwagandha is recognized as an adaptogen for the male organism, which gives it both soothing and invigorating qualities and makes it an excellent aphrodisiac.
However, it is worth mentioning that Shatavari is also beneficial to men but for different actions, just as Ashwagandha has some interest for women's health.
Ayurveda places great importance on the health and vitality of the reproductive systems of both sexes, not only to promote sexual life, but also because the vitality of the reproductive systems provides greater energy to the body as a whole, especially the nervous system.
The women's plant par excellence...
Shatavari is a Rasayana, i.e. a rejuvenating and regenerating plant. It is the plant of women par excellence because it acts on the whole female genital apparatus by stabilizing and strengthening it. Ayurveda lends it all the possible benefits on the female organism from puberty to menopause, remember, Shatavari means "the one with a hundred husbands" in Sanskrit.
According to Ayurveda, Shatavari is recommended to soothe premenstrual syndrome by acting on pain, irritability, water retention, sore breasts, headaches, etc. Shatavari is also useful during pregnancy: not only does it promote fertility but it also limits the risk of miscarriage and is beneficial for breastfeeding by increasing prolactin thanks to corticosteroids.
At all ages it also acts on vaginal dryness and desire, thus promoting a fulfilling sex life.
Finally, it has a decisive action in periods of peri-menopause and menopause: it soothes hot flashes, nervousness, irritability and changing moods.
When reading many Ayurvedic texts, one wonders what would happen to women without the Shatavari!
... But that's not all !
Ayurvedic doctors prescribe Shatavari to men, especially to those whose constitution is dominated by Pitta to regenerate their blood system, but also in case of ulcers or chronic diarrhea. Finally, it has the reputation of increasing sperm production and improving its quality. A synonym in Sanskrit of the name Shatavari is Atirasa, which means "very juicy" or Satpadi which means "has hundreds of roots".
