From the Rubiaceae family, Manjistha or Indian madder is a plant whose roots are harvested, which are then dried, peeled and ground into powder.
With a beautiful amber color, Manjistha powder has been dedicated to well-being since the dawn of time. Widely used in Ayurvedic medicine, it is especially known in the West for its coloring effect on hair, but also for beautifying hair and soothing the scalp.
In India, this natural product is used by women to tone the skin and hide gray hair. It is, indeed, its astringent properties, which allow it to eliminate dead cells and, consequently to activate the regeneration of the skin. They also give back to the skin, brightness and firmness.
"Manjistha" is usually translated from Sanskrit as "bright red". This is the color of this powder, similar to that of the hot sands of the deserts.
Packaged in France, Ayur-vana's organic Manjistha is labeled "Cosmos Organic", the most rigorous certification for a cosmetic product. This powder makes the hair soft and shiny, while contributing to the purification of the scalp.

For a 100% natural coloring:
Mix the powder with warm water in a bowl until you have a yogurt-like paste. Apply strand by strand to clean, dry hair and wrap in plastic wrap. Leave on for an hour or more depending on the desired result. Rinse hair thoroughly afterwards. Avoid shampooing within 48 hours, while the color develops.
Alternatively, mix Manjistha powder with hibiscus flower powder, a little henna and a little water. Leave on for 60 minutes and then rinse off.
For skin application:
Externally, Ayurveda uses Manjistha as a poultice prepared with honey in case of depigmentation and skin inflammations.
Its powder is perfectly suited to sensitive, mature or problematic skin. It removes impurities and purifies. Be careful, however, if you have fair skin, it is a coloring powder that could leave marks. Test it beforehand on a non-visible area.
You can therefore make the same preparation as the hair color, adding a neutral compound: honey, pink clay, vegetable oils .... Apply this natural mask to the body or face.
